About Moonstone

Moonstone is a feldspar mineral (primarily orthoclase or adularia, sometimes oligoclase) celebrated for its adularescence—a billowing, floating blue-white to silver glow that moves across the stone's surface as it is tilted, caused by light scattering between alternating layers of orthoclase and albite. The finest blue adularescent moonstone originates from Sri Lanka, while rainbow moonstone (actually labradorite) comes from India, and peach-orange moonstones are sourced from Tanzania and India. One of the three June birthstones, moonstone has been worn as a talisman in Roman and Indian traditions for over two thousand years.
