La sussexita es un mineral de borato de manganeso y magnesio de color blanco amarillento a rosado, con aspecto fibroso o laminar. Es una especie poco conocida fuera del ámbito mineralógico, con escasas localidades documentadas. Fue descrita originalmente en el condado de Sussex (Nueva Jersey, EE. UU.), de donde toma su nombre. Su interés es principalmente científico y coleccionable, sin aplicación notable como gema ornamental.
