About Melanite
La melanita es la variedad negra del granate andradita, cuyo oscuro color se debe a altos contenidos de titanio y hierro, con un lustre brillante que le confiere un aspecto similar a los diamantes talla rosa negros utilizados en joyería de luto victoriana. Se forma en rocas alcalinas ígneas y skarns, con notables yacimientos en Italia, Francia y Alemania. Aunque su color negro la diferencia del andradita verde o amarilla, su brillo adamantino la convierte en una gema inusual y elegante.
