About Cassiterite
La casiterita es un óxido de estaño que cristaliza en el sistema tetragonal, formando cristales prismáticos o bipiramidales de color marrón a negro, con un brillante y marcado brillo adamantino o metálico. Es el mineral de estaño más importante comercialmente y ha sido explotada desde la Antigüedad, siendo el metal del bronce que dio nombre a la Edad del Bronce. Los ejemplares transparentes de colores amarillo dorado, marrón miel o naranja son facetados como gemas de coleccionista, exhibiendo una dispersión de la luz similar a la del diamante. Los mejores cristales provienen de Bolivia, Perú, China y Cornualles (Gran Bretaña).
