About Cassiterite
Cassiterite is a tin oxide mineral that serves as the primary ore of tin, forming brown to black, reddish brown, or rarely colorless tetragonal crystals with a brilliant, adamantine luster. Transparent to translucent reddish-brown faceted stones are cut as collector gems that can display exceptional brilliance, and the mineral forms distinctive 'wood tin' botryoidal masses with a wood-grain appearance. Major sources for gem crystals include Bolivia, Mexico, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
