About Boulder Opal
El ópalo boulder es una variedad australiana de ópalo que se forma en grietas y concavidades de grandes fragmentos o nódulos de roca ferruginosa (ironstone), principalmente arenisca o limolita de Queensland. A diferencia del ópalo blanco o negro, se extrae y presenta unido a su roca madre, que forma parte integral de la gema tallada. Este fondo de roca oscura potencia el juego de colores del ópalo, produciendo efectos similares a los del ópalo negro. Los mejores ejemplares muestran un mosaico de colores brillantes sobre el fondo oscuro de la ironstone. Es una gema exclusivamente australiana muy valorada.
