About Aragonite
La aragonita es un polimorfo del carbonato de calcio, estable a alta presión, que cristaliza en el sistema ortorrómbico formando prismas, maclas en forma de punta de flecha o agregados aciculares. Aunque idéntica en composición al calcio, su estructura cristalina diferente le confiere propiedades ópticas y de densidad distintas. Es el componente principal del nácar y de los corales, así como de algunas conchas de moluscos. Los cristales de colores azul, verde o naranja, aunque raros, son ocasionalmente facetados como gemas de coleccionista. Se transforma lentamente en calcita con el tiempo. Los mejores ejemplares provienen de España, Marruecos y México.
