About Aragonite

Aragonite is a calcium carbonate polymorph of calcite that forms pointed, pseudohexagonal crystal clusters, stalactites, and concentric banding in cave environments, as well as being the primary mineral in pearls and mollusk shells. Its most celebrated gem form is as the iridescent inner nacre of pearls and the colorful aragonite stalactites from Morocco, which are polished to reveal concentric chocolate and cream banding. The mineral is metastable at surface conditions and slowly converts to calcite over geological time.
