About Povondraite
Povondraite é um raro membro do grupo turmalina rico em sódio-ferro-magnésio que forma cristais prismáticos de cor preta a preta-esverdeada. Nomeada em homenagem ao mineralogista checo Petr Povondra, foi reconhecida como espécie mineral distinta em 1998. Ocorre em rochas metamórficas de alto grau no Nepal, onde foram descritos os melhores exemplares conhecidos. Embora raramente usada em joalharia, os cristais bem formados de povondraite são apreciados por colecionadores de turmalinas raras. A sua composição química invulgar dentro do complexo grupo turmalina torna-a interessante para investigadores mineralógicos.
