About Povondraite
Povondraite is a rare iron-rich member of the tourmaline supergroup, typically displaying an opaque to translucent deep black to dark brown color. First described in 1993, it forms in highly saline metamorphic environments and is named after Czech mineralogist Pavel Povondra. Specimens are primarily of mineralogical interest, found notably in the Apuan Alps of Italy.
