La turmalina sandía es una de las variedades más apreciadas de turmalina: presenta un núcleo rosa a rojo rodeado por una corteza verde, imitando la apariencia de una sandía en corte transversal. Esta zonación bicolor se produce por cambios en la composición química durante el crecimiento del cristal. Se usa frecuentemente en rebanadas o rodajas para mostrar el patrón.
