El grupo de la thomsonita agrupa varias zeolitas estrechamente relacionadas que forman cristales tabulares o prismáticos blancos, rosas, rojos o verdes. Los nódulos de thomsonita de la costa del lago Superior (Minnesota, EE. UU.) son muy apreciados por los coleccionistas locales: presentan atractivos patrones concéntricos de colores y se pulen en cabujones para joyería. Se forman en cavidades de basalto. Llevan el nombre del químico escocés Thomas Thomson.
