About Thaumasite
La thaumasita es un mineral de silicato, sulfato y carbonato de calcio que forma cristales aciculares blancos a incoloros de aspecto fibroso o radiado. Es más conocida por su papel en la degradación del hormigón que por sus características gemológicas. Los cristales coleccionables proceden de localidades en Noruega, Suecia y algunos yacimientos alpinos. Su nombre deriva del griego que significa «sorprendente», aludiendo a su inusual composición química.
