About Smithsonite
La smithsonita es un carbonato de zinc que puede presentarse en una sorprendente variedad de colores: verde menta, azul, lavanda, amarillo, rosa e incoloro, dependiendo de las impurezas metálicas. Su aspecto a menudo translúcido y botroidal o reniforme la hace muy atractiva para joyeros y coleccionistas. Fue descrita por primera vez en honor al fundador de la Institución Smithsoniana, James Smithson. Se encuentra en zonas de oxidación de depósitos de zinc en Grecia, Namibia, México y Estados Unidos.
