About Omphacite
La omfacita es un piroxeno verde intenso a verde grisáceo, un silicato de sodio, calcio, aluminio, hierro y magnesio que es el componente principal de la eclogita, una roca de alta presión formada en las profundidades de la corteza terrestre o en zonas de subducción. Los cristales transparentes de calidad gema son extremadamente raros, y la omfacita es el mineral responsable del color verde de algunas jadeítas más oscuras. Su hallazgo en xenolitos del manto la convierte en un importante indicador de las condiciones de las profundidades terrestres.
