About Nepheline

La nefelina es un tectosilicato de potasio y sodio que forma masas granulares o cristales hexagonales de color blanco grisáceo a amarillento con lustre grasiento a vítreo, frecuente en rocas ígneas pobres en sílice como los fonolitas y nefelinitas. Es un importante mineral industrial como fuente de alúmina para la fabricación de vidrio y cerámica, con grandes yacimientos en Rusia y Noruega. Su nombre proviene del griego «nube» porque se vuelve turbia al sumergirse en ácido.
