About Cuprite
La cuprita es un mineral de óxido de cobre de color rojo vívido que forma cristales isométricos de un rojo rubí profundo a casi negro, con un índice de refracción extremadamente alto y lustre adamantino, produciendo gemas facetadas de extraordinaria brillantez, a veces llamadas 'cobre rubí'. Los cristales transparentes más finos y la variedad 'calcotrichita' (crecimientos cristalinos en forma de cabello) provienen principalmente de la mina Onganja en Namibia y de Chessy, Francia. A pesar de su magnificencia óptica, la extrema blandura (dureza 3,5–4) limita su uso a gemas de coleccionista protegidas.
