About Corundum
El corindón es un óxido de aluminio (Al₂O₃) que cristaliza en el sistema trigonal y constituye la familia gemológica más importante del mundo, agrupando el rubí (rojo) y el zafiro (todos los demás colores). Con una dureza de 9 en la escala de Mohs, es el segundo mineral más duro de la naturaleza tras el diamante, lo que lo hace ideal para la joyería de uso diario. El corindón incoloro (leucozafiro) y el de colores poco saturados son menos valorados que el rubí y el zafiro de color intenso. Los depósitos más importantes se encuentran en Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Tailandia, Cachemira, Mozambique, Madagascar y Tanzania.
