About Chalcopyrite
La calcopirita es un sulfuro de cobre y hierro de color amarillo dorado metálico con irisaciones que van del azul al violeta y al rojo en su superficie, conocida coloquialmente como 'oro de loco' por su parecido superficial con el oro. Cristaliza en el sistema tetragonal y es el mineral de cobre más importante desde el punto de vista económico. Los ejemplares con fuerte iridiscencia superficial, denominados 'calcopirita pavonada' o 'peacock ore', son muy populares como piedra de colección y se venden ocasionalmente en mercados de gemas. Los yacimientos de alta calidad se encuentran en México, Perú, Chile, España y Australia.
