About Cancrinite

La cancrinita es un feldespatolide de composición compleja, silicato de sodio y calcio con carbonato y sulfato, que cristaliza en el sistema hexagonal. Presenta colores que van del amarillo y naranja al rosa, verde o azul grisáceo, con brillo vítreo a ceroso. Se encuentra en rocas ígneas alcalinas intrusivas, como sienitas nefelínicas y pegmatitas alcalinas, frecuentemente asociada a nefelina, sodalita y feldespatos. Su nombre honra al mineralogista ruso Georg von Cancrin. Los ejemplares masivos de color rosa o amarillo son ocasionalmente tallados en cabujones o utilizados como piedra ornamental. Los mejores provienen de Rusia y Canadá.
