About Brookite
La brookita es una de las tres formas polimórficas del dióxido de titanio (junto al rutilo y la anatasa), que cristaliza en el sistema ortorrómbico. Forma cristales tabulares o prismáticos de color marrón rojizo, amarillo anaranjado o negro, con un brillo adamantino a submetálico y un alto índice de refracción. Es el polimorfo del TiO₂ más raro y los cristales de calidad gemológica son extremadamente escasos, siendo piezas de coleccionista muy apreciadas. Los mejores ejemplares provienen de los Alpes suizos (en la val d'Ossola), Galés (Snowdonia) y Arkansas (EE.UU.). Fue descrita en 1825 y nombrada en honor al químico inglés Henry James Brooke.
