About Bertrandite
La bertrandita es un silicato de berilio e hidróxilo que cristaliza en el sistema ortorrómbico, formando cristales tabulares o laminares de color incoloro a amarillo pálido o blanco con brillo vítreo a perlado. Es un mineral secundario que se forma por la alteración de la bertrandita y otros minerales de berilio. Aunque raramente utilizada como gema, tiene importancia industrial como mena de berilio, especialmente en los depósitos de Utah (EE.UU.), que son la mayor fuente mundial de este metal. Los cristales transparentes son ocasionalmente coleccionados por los mineralogistas. Fue nombrada en honor al mineralogista francés Émile Bertrand.
