About Bastnäsite
La bastnäsita (bastanasita) es un mineral de fluorocarbonato de tierras raras, principalmente cerio y lantano, que cristaliza en el sistema hexagonal formando cristales tabulares o prismáticos de color amarillo a marrón anaranjado con brillo ceroso a vítreo. Es uno de los minerales de tierras raras más abundantes del mundo y una fuente comercial fundamental de estos elementos. Los principales yacimientos se encuentran en Mountain Pass (California, EE.UU.), China y la mina carbonatítica de Bayan Obo (Mongolia). Los cristales facetados son piezas de coleccionista muy inusuales. Su nombre proviene de la localidad de Bastnäs, en Suecia.
