About Azurite

La azurita es un carbonato de cobre básico de un intenso color azul cielo a azul marino profundo, uno de los más vibrantes del reino mineral. Se forma en la zona de oxidación de depósitos de sulfuros de cobre, frecuentemente asociada a la malaquita (su equivalente verde). Ha sido utilizada como pigmento azul desde la antigüedad en pinturas egipcias, medievales y del Renacimiento. Los cristales de azurita bien formados son muy apreciados por los coleccionistas, aunque su baja dureza (3.5-4) y su tendencia a transformarse en malaquita limitan su uso en joyería. Los mejores ejemplares provienen de Marruecos, Francia, Namibia y Arizona (EE.UU.).
