About Albite

La albita es un feldespato plagioclásico rico en sodio que pertenece a la serie isomorfa de los plagioclasas. Cristaliza en el sistema triclínico y suele presentarse en cristales tabulares o masivos de color blanco a gris, aunque puede ser incolora, amarillenta o verdosa. Es un mineral abundante en rocas ígneas y metamórficas, y un componente esencial de muchas pegmatitas. Las variedades transparentes y bien cristalizadas son ocasionalmente facetadas como gemas de colección. La peristerita, una variedad de albita con efecto de aventurescencia azulada, es especialmente apreciada por los coleccionistas.
