About Realgar
Realgar é um sulfureto de arsénio de cor vermelho-laranja brilhante a vermelho-escarlate que foi usado como pigmento e veneno ao longo da história. O nome deriva do árabe para pó de mina. Embora os seus cristais prismáticos de brilho resinoso sejam visualmente deslumbrantes, a composição de arsénio torna-o tóxico. Com o tempo e exposição à luz, o realgar decompõe-se em pararealgar amarelo e arsénio. A sua raridade e aspeto distintivo tornam-no um espécime de colecionador altamente valorizado quando as amostras se conservam bem. Os melhores exemplares provêm de Binntal, na Suíça, e do Utah, nos EUA.
