About Powellite
Powellite é um raro mineral de molibdato de cálcio que forma cristais tetragonais de cor amarela, âmbar ou verde-amarelada com brilho adamantino. Nomeada em homenagem ao explorador e geólogo americano John Wesley Powell, ocorre em zonas de oxidação de depósitos de molibdenite. Os melhores exemplares provêm da Índia, especialmente de Maharashtra, onde cristais de qualidade gemológica com cor âmbar brilhante foram encontrados. Embora raramente talhada, a powellite tem índice de refração elevado que confere excelente brilho quando facetada. É muito apreciada por colecionadores pela combinação de raridade e aspeto adamantino.
