About Nepheline
Nefelina é um mineral feldspato-patóide de sódio-potássio-alumínio que ocorre em rochas ígneas alcalinas pobres em sílica. Forma cristais hexagonais ou massas granulares de aspeto gorduroso a vítreo, em tonalidades brancas, cinzentas ou levemente amareladas. Variedades transparentes de qualidade gemológica são raras mas são talhadas para colecionadores. O nome deriva do grego para nuvem, referindo o seu aspeto turvo em ácido. Ocorre notavelmente em sienitos nefelínicos e fonolitos em todo o mundo, com depósitos significativos na Noruega, Rússia e Canadá. A nefelina tem importantes aplicações industriais como fonte de alumina.
