About Marcasite
Marcasite é um mineral de dissulfeto de ferro com o mesmo aspeto da pirite mas diferente estrutura cristalina. A sua coloração amarelo-pálido a branco-estanho com brilho metálico conferiu-lhe o nome popular de 'ouro dos tolos branco'. Amplamente usada em joalharia vitoriana, a marcasite talha em facetas que captam a luz de forma brilhante. Contudo, é instável e tende a decompor-se gradualmente. As joias vitorianas com 'marcasite' usavam frequentemente pirite. Ocorre em sedimentos marinhos, veeiros hidrotermais e como mineral de intemperismo em todo o mundo.
