About Bowenite

A bowenite é uma variedade de antigorite (do grupo da serpentina) de qualidade gemológica, com coloração verde-clara a verde-amarelada, translúcida a opaca, frequentemente confundida com jade nefrite. É muito mais dura e compacta do que a serpentina comum, o que lhe permite ser polida com facilidade e utilizada em joalharia, esculturas e objectos decorativos. Em Nova Zelândia, é utilizada pelos maoris como substituto do pounamu (greenstone). O nome homenageia o geólogo americano George T. Bowen. Encontra-se em Afghanistan, China, Nova Zelândia e Estados Unidos.
