About Augite
A augite é o piroxénio mais comum e amplamente distribuído, de cor verde-escura a negra ou castanho-escura. Forma-se em rochas ígneas básicas como basaltos, gabros e diabases, sendo um mineral essencial dessas rochas. Embora raramente utilizada em joalharia convencional devido à sua cor escura e opacidade habitual, alguns cristais de augite são apreciados por colecionadores pela perfeição das suas formas cristalinas. O nome deriva do grego "auge", que significa brilho, referindo-se ao lustre vítreo das suas faces. É de grande importância em petrologia para a classificação de rochas ígneas máficas.
