Jegdalek is one of Afghanistan's most significant gemstone mining areas, producing rubies, emeralds, tourmalines, and the country's famed lapis lazuli from nearby deposits. The rubies from Jegdalek occur in marble host rock similar to Mogok and can exhibit fine red to pinkish-red colors. Afghanistan's gem wealth remains vast but underexploited due to decades of conflict and limited infrastructure.
