About Uvarovite
Uvarovite is the rarest and only truly emerald-green garnet species, whose intense color is caused by chromium and whose small crystal size—rarely exceeding a few millimeters—generally prevents faceting into individual gems. It forms exclusively in chromite-bearing serpentinites and metamorphic rocks, with spectacular sparkling drusy specimens from the Outokumpu mine in Finland and the Ural Mountains of Russia being among the most coveted of all mineral specimens. Drusy uvarovite jewelry featuring clusters of tiny emerald-green crystals is highly fashionable.
