About Tektite
Tektites are natural glass objects formed by the fusion and rapid cooling of terrestrial rock material ejected during meteorite impact events, creating aerodynamically shaped bodies—spheres, teardrops, dumbbells, and buttons—that range from black to olive-green and brownish. Moldavite, the most prized tektite, is a forest-green glass from Bohemia, Czech Republic, formed by the Nördlingen impact 15 million years ago, while australites, philippinites, and indochinites are found across southern Asia and Australia. Tektites are among the few terrestrial gemstones with an extraterrestrial origin event.
