About Sphalerite
Sphalerite is a zinc sulfide mineral with an extraordinary fire—a dispersion rate 3.8 times greater than diamond—producing brilliant spectral flashes of color in faceted stones that range from colorless and yellow to orange, red, green, and black. The finest gem-quality transparent material, typically yellow to honey-orange, comes from the Almadén mines of Spain and from Mexico, and despite its softness making it difficult to wear, the brilliance of a well-cut sphalerite is unmatched. It is the most important ore of zinc globally.
