About Simpsonite
Simpsonite is a very rare aluminum tantalate mineral that forms tabular hexagonal crystals, typically cream, pale yellow, or colorless, with a vitreous to resinous luster. It occurs in lithium-bearing granitic pegmatites and is found at the Tabba Tabba mine in Western Australia, its type locality, as well as in Portugal. It is named after Edward Sydney Simpson, an Australian mineralogist, and specimens are primarily of interest to collectors of rare tantalum-bearing minerals.
