About Sardonyx
Sardonyx is a layered chalcedony combining alternating bands of sard (reddish-brown) and white onyx, creating a striking natural cameo-friendly stone that has been carved since antiquity. Ancient Romans believed it brought courage and eloquence to those who wore it, and it was used extensively for carved cameos, seals, and jewelry throughout Greek, Roman, and Renaissance civilizations. Brazil and India are primary sources of fine sardonyx today.
