About Painite
Painite is a calcium zirconium aluminum borate mineral once considered the world's rarest mineral and gem, with only two known crystals until 2005 and fewer than a thousand specimens known today. First described in 1957 from Myanmar and named after gemologist Arthur Pain, it occurs as deep brownish-red to orange-red hexagonal crystals with adamantine luster. Faceted painite remains extraordinarily rare and commands exceptional prices; fine specimens are held in major natural history museum collections worldwide.
