About Orthoclase

Orthoclase is a potassium aluminum silicate feldspar forming colorless, white, cream, pale yellow, or pink monoclinic crystals with a vitreous to pearly luster, extremely abundant in granites, pegmatites, and metamorphic rocks worldwide. Transparent yellow orthoclase from Madagascar has been faceted into attractive collector gems, and adularia (a variety of orthoclase) is the classic source of adularescent moonstone from Sri Lanka. Orthoclase's hardness of Mohs 6 and abundance make it a reference standard on the Mohs scale.
