About Nifontovite
Nifontovite is a very rare hydrated calcium borate mineral forming colorless to white or pale gray prismatic orthorhombic crystals with a vitreous luster in skarn and metamorphic environments. It was first described in 1959 from the Tazheran massif in Siberia, Russia, and named after Russian mineralogist N.I. Nifontova. Faceted gem material is extremely rare and of purely scientific and collector interest due to the mineral's very limited occurrence.
