About Hexagonite
Hexagonite is a manganese-rich variety of tremolite amphibole, named for the pseudo-hexagonal cross-sections of its prismatic crystals, displaying attractive pale pink to violet hues due to manganese content. It occurs in metamorphic dolomitic marbles and was first described from the Fowler talc mine in New York State, USA, with additional occurrences in New Jersey. The pink to lavender color and translucency of hexagonite are distinctive, and cut specimens are sought by amphibole mineral collectors.
