About Herderite
Herderite is a rare calcium beryllium phosphate fluoride mineral occurring in colorless, pale yellow, greenish, or lilac tones with a vitreous luster and good hardness (Mohs 5–5.5). It forms in granitic pegmatites and is found in notable localities in Brazil, Maine (USA), Afghanistan, and Germany, named after Saxon mineralogist and mining official S.A.W. von Herder. Faceted herderite gems are prized by phosphate mineral collectors for their clarity and the attractive color range of the beryllium-phosphate series.
