About Foitite
Foitite is an iron-aluminum tourmaline end-member, typically presenting in dark blue to blue-black or nearly opaque tones with a vitreous to resinous luster. It was formally described in 1995 and named in honor of mineralogist Frank C. Foord, with primary occurrences in pegmatites in Portugal, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Transparent facetable material is exceedingly rare, making cut foitite a significant collector piece.
