About Dumortierite
Dumortierite is a blue to violet aluminum borosilicate mineral typically found in massive, fibrous form in high-grade metamorphic rocks, valued as a medium-blue to violet cabochon and carving material. Named after the French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier, fine massive material comes from Nevada, California, France, and Mozambique. Though rarely transparent enough to facet, massive dumortierite polishes to a handsome medium blue that makes it popular in beads and decorative carvings.
