About Demantoid
Demantoid is the magnificent green variety of andradite garnet, celebrated as having higher dispersion than any other natural gemstone including diamond, producing fiery spectral flashes visible even in subdued light. Russian demantoid from the Ural Mountains—identifiable by characteristic 'horsetail' fibrous chrysotile inclusions—remains the most prized, while Namibian and Italian sources provide additional supply. First discovered in Russia in 1853, demantoid is considered by many collectors to be the most magnificent of all garnets.
