About Calcite Satin Spar
Calcite satin spar is a fibrous, silky variety of calcite that displays a gentle, undulating white chatoyancy reminiscent of satin fabric when polished into cabochons. Unlike selenite satin spar (gypsum), calcite satin spar is slightly harder and more durable, though still quite soft for jewelry use. It is found primarily in Mexico, where large fibrous masses are carved into palmstones, massage wands, and decorative objects.
