About Gadolinium Gallium Garnet (GGG)
Gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG) is a synthetic oxide crystal grown by the Czochralski method, displaying a colorless to pale appearance with a high refractive index and strong dispersion approaching that of diamond. Developed initially for microwave device and magneto-optical applications in the 1960s and 70s, it was briefly marketed as a diamond simulant before being supplanted by cubic zirconia. Today GGG is used mainly in scientific and industrial optical components rather than as a gemstone.
