About Sunstone (Aventurine feldspar)
Sunstone is a variety of feldspar—typically oligoclase or labradorite—that displays a sparkling, glittering optical effect called aventurescence caused by reflections from aligned copper, hematite, or goethite platelet inclusions within the stone. Oregon sunstone, the official state gemstone of Oregon, is notable for containing native copper inclusions producing a range of colors from pale yellow to deep red, while Scandinavian varieties have a warm golden schiller. Its metallic spangled brilliance and warm tones make it a highly popular gem.
