About Satin Spar
Satin Spar is a fibrous variety of either gypsum or calcite that exhibits a brilliant silky chatoyancy due to its parallel fiber structure, producing striking optical effects when cut as cabochons or polished rods. The most common form is gypsum satin spar, which is white to colorless with a luminous pearly sheen, and is quarried in large quantities in Derbyshire, England, and Mexico. Its glowing white appearance and availability in large pieces make it a popular decorative material.
