The Mahenge plateau's marble-hosted deposits yield crystals with exceptional saturation and fluorescence, creating an almost electric appearance. A major discovery in 2007 brought Mahenge spinels to international attention when clusters of large, clean crystals were unearthed, and prices have risen steadily since.
